They usually cover themes related to art, history, cryptography and all sorts of conspiracy theories. I have compiled a list of Dan Brown books in chronological order for readers to enjoy.
The first of Dan Brown’s novels, this book was published in 1998. It’s about the National Security Agency and its super code breaking machine called TRANSLTR. Known for breaking any kind of complex code, TRANSLTR finally met its match when it encountered a mysterious code that could not be broken. Faced with this challenge, the NSA brings in its head cryptographer to solve the mystery. What the brilliant cryptographer discovers is a mystery that if released to the public, would endanger the United States Intelligence and be a real threat to national security.
This best selling thriller book was published in 2000. It introduced us to the world renowned Professor Robert Langdon. A Harvard Symbologist, Langdon is called to Switzerland to analyze a cryptic message that had been inscribed on the chest of a physicist that was murdered in a research facility. He discovers a shocking plot by the Illuminati, an old secret society, to destroy the Catholic Church. A centuries old vendetta had been brought back to life and blood must flow. In a bid to save the Catholic Church from a ticking time bomb, Robert Langdon teams up with a mysterious scientist and together they comb through Rome, ancient cathedrals and catacombs for answers that will prevent further loss of lives and save the Catholic Church from destruction.
Published in 2001, this mystery-thriller is Dan Brown’s third novel. NASA space satellites discover a meteorite that supposedly had proof of extra-terrestrial life. With the elections coming up, such discovery is bound to help the reelection of the incumbent president. Meanwhile, the White House intelligence analyst involved in verifying and confirming the evidence is torn between her allegiance to her boss the President, and her father the Senator who is running against the president in the upcoming elections.
The second novel in the Robert Langdon series, Dan Brown’s fourth novel is arguably his most popular, having sold millions of copies around the world and translated to over 40 languages. When an elderly curator of the Louvre museum in Paris is murdered, Robert Langdon is summoned to decipher the mysterious symbols engraved all over his body. This leads Langdon and his partner on a trail that covers the works of Leonardo Da Vinci which involves hidden symbols in his art works. They ultimately discover a centuries old feud between a sect of the Catholic Church called Opus Dei and an old secret society called Priory of Sion which Da Vinci and the murdered curator were a part of.
Another thrilling masterpiece from Dan Brown, this is the third novel in the Robert Langdon series and was published in 2009. Dan Brown brings a fast paced thriller filled with stunning intrigues in the Lost Symbol. Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon goes to the Capitol Building in Washington DC to deliver a lecture, at the invitation of his mentor, Peter Solomon who is a mason of the highest order. On getting there, things immediately take a turn when it’s discovered that Solomon has been kidnapped and it was actually the kidnapper who invited Langdon. At the same time, a mysterious object is found which Langdon recognizes as an invitation into the world of masons hidden in secrets and history.
This is the fourth book in the Robert Langdon series and it was published in 2013. Langdon wakes up in the hospital without remembering a thing from the past few days. His doctor reveals to him that he is suffering from amnesia, and helps him escape from the hospital when an assassin tries to kill him. They both embark on a quest through Florence to decipher a series of codes set by a scientist who is intent on destroying the world.
Published in 2017, this is the fifth installment of the Robert Langdon series. Langdon finds himself at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao for an announcement by his friend and former student, the billionaire Edmond Kirsch. The announcement by Kirsch is supposed to be the unveiling of a discovery that will change science forever. However, things suddenly erupt in chaos and Langdon together with the museum director, is forced to flee to Barcelona. They must discover a secret password to unlock the discovery or risk losing it forever.
